Writers’ Hour Magazine: Monthly Contest + Weekly Companion Prompts

Each month at Writers' Hour Magazine, we publish a Monthly Contest based on a broad theme, plus a Weekly Companion Prompt each Sunday.

The companion prompts are designed as optional entry points into the month’s theme. They work as standalone invitations, and they also offer different ways a writer might approach the monthly contest prompt.

Submission window

The contest opens on the first Sunday of the month at 4:00pm ET and closes on the last Friday of the month at 12:00pm ET. Submissions are collected via Submittable.

Eligibility

The contest is open to paid subscribers of Writers’ Hour Magazine (including London Writers’ Salon members who receive complimentary access to paid benefits). 

The prompts are visible to all and act as an opportunity for writers of all experience levels and working in all genres to stretch their writing muscles. Contest entrants have a chance to win a cash prize, London Writers' Salon membership, and publication in Writers’ Hour Magazine.

The weekly prompt is released every Sunday 9pm BST / 4pm ET / 1pm PT via Writers Hour Magazine and shared with all subscribers.
